CANNABIS STRAINS AND THEIR PROPERTIES
SATIVA VS. INDICA
CANNABIS STRAINS AND THEIR PROPERTIES
THE THREE CANNABIS STRAINS
Already visually distinguishable: left indica, right sativa
It makes sense to differentiate between the three plant types Indica, Sativa, and Ruderalis. However: Pure varieties are rare in the sale. Those who value pure enjoyment should ask explicitly. Most traded marijuana is a dried cross between indica and sativa.
Cannabis growers are trying to merge specific properties of both species into new species by breeding hybrids. Thus, a common goal of breeding trials is to mash the psychoactive and sativa aromas with the faster maturity, high yield, and rich resin content of the indica. However, for users who are intensely interested in the plant and its energetic “essence,” the experience of uncrossed varieties is intriguing.
THE THREE CANNABIS VARIETIES
In this article, we highlight the fundamental differences between the three family members that users and breeders should know about – because the growth habits and the demands that each variety of places on the gardener vary. However, it must also be said that the differences presented below seem more pronounced than they may feel. It is not least due to the type. Every cannabis plant, like humans, is a complex system. When both interact, it comes to entirely individual action processes. Therefore, described plant properties can only ever be guideposts.
WHAT IS INDICA?
INDICA
ORIGIN AND CHARACTERISTICS
Most Indica species have emerged from adaptation to the climate of East Asia, India, Nepal, Tibet, and Afghanistan. The plants are a darker green, as well as shorter and more compact than the Sativa specimens. Cannabis Indica grows sturdy and robust, with strong branching of rather short branches. Indica flowers are often clustered in dense, massive clusters, with a distinctive fragrance and an extraordinary amount of resin, which goes down to the adjacent, broad leaves. Indica flowers faster than Sativa, with a flowering time of six to nine weeks. The buds are usually ripe in early September. The growth then reduced to only 50% to 100% increase in height during flowering.
Cultivation and harvest
Cannabis Indica Northern Lights
Indica Northern Lights
Indica is particularly suitable for indoor growing due to the less pronounced stature height of usually less than 200 cm. How much fertilizer the plant needs depends on the individual variety. Although one speaks in connection with Indica of a high fertilizer tolerance; but some strains require little additional nutrients. The pure extension phase, i.e., the period of intensive plant growth, is quite short, it is usually only up to four weeks. Since Indica varieties already begin with the flower and resin production.
Then the root growth is completed. That’s why Indicas should be placed in as large a pot as possible from the beginning and should not be repotted.
The massive advantage of indica, its lush inflorescence, can also spoil it if gardeners do not keep the humidity under close control. Sufficient air circulation around the plant is essential. Both ensure that it does not come to the mold, especially at the end of the flowering period. The gardener should support the enormous energy expenditure, which the Indica invests in their flower production, especially in the last fourteen days, with sufficient daily water supply.
THE EFFECT OF INDICA
The effect is primarily perceived physically and downstream mental: Indica has a balancing, soothing, and relaxing. Indica can also make you sleepy in higher doses. Indica can enhance auditory and haptic sensations, and the taste can intensify. The familiar, heavy feeling of being “stoned” is due to Indica consumption. As a result, many users find it difficult to continue working with Indica Kosum, even though they often perceive a general increase in creativity.
THERAPEUTIC USE
Indica cannabis can be painkilling, especially for chronic pain. It relaxes the muscles and reduces the development of cramps and muscle twitching. It can reduce headaches and make migraine more bearable; In many cases, users also report that these disappear completely with Indica cannabis use. On a psychological level, Indica helps against acute stress and anxiety symptoms. However, as with all medications, it should be added that cannabis does not fight root causes. The same applies to sleep disorders or sleep disorders in which Indica is also used frequently.
INDICA SEEDS
Indica seeds are offered here for shipping, for example. Legally, an order of cannabis seeds has not been finally resolved and is likely to be a criminal offense. See here.
What is and how does Sativa work?
SATIVA STRAIN
ORIGIN AND CHARACTERISTICS
Sativa has adjusted to the circumstances of equatorial regions such as Thailand, Cambodia, Jamaica, or Mexico. The light-leaved sativa grows generally taller and narrower than indica, with more abundant flowers, which, however, smell-less intense both on the branch and dried. These do not form into clusters but arise along the branches. Compared to the indica, the sativa bears fewer flowers. However, these can reach an impressive size.
Sativa flower became longer, between nine and twelve weeks. But to compensate, Sativa has a shorter growing season before it starts to bloom. Nevertheless, the combined growth and flowering period can take up to six months. In the flowering phase, the sativa grows again by 200 to 300 percent of its previous vegetation height.
CULTIVATION AND HARVEST
In their countries of origin, festivals grow under particular conditions: Plants receive the same amount of sunlight every day throughout the year. As a result, they continue to grow during their flowering time. Under natural conditions, they can be up to seven meters high. For indoor installation, this property can be problematic.
Meanwhile, most hobby breeders opt for cannabis sativa because the harvest is lower than the many offered cannabis indica strain. However, anyone who is interested in hemp for fiber processing will, like almost all industrially hemp-processing companies, fall back on pure cannabis sativa. As Sativa grows tallest, it naturally produces the longest fibers.
Cannabis Sativa Pure Power
Sativa Pure Power
THE EFFECT OF SATIVA
Enjoyed as a stimulant, Sativa generates a noticeable high, an energetic, inspiring state that manifests itself mainly through a mental top. Some users report psychotic experiences on pure sativa; However, to be as hallucinogenic, the variety must have developed an unusually high THC content.
Most people experience the effect of Sativa as creative, stimulating, and happy. Unlike Cannabis Indica, cannabis sativa is more associated with daytime consumption because it does not make you sleepy, less “overwhelmed” and even attention-ful and focus. Sativa promotes social competence and a general sense of relaxation and “arrival.” It can alleviate depression and compensate for drive disorders through general stimulation.
THERAPEUTIC USE
Acute stress situations without anxiety are cushioned with Sativa. Interestingly enough, the infamous food cravings that follow Sativa enjoyment have a very positive side effect. Cannabis Sativa can also be used as a mild stimulant and concurrent appetite stimulant after chemotherapy, HIV / AIDS treatment, or other nausea and loss of appetite-inducing treatments. Also, chronic pain, migraine, and depression are treated with Sativa.
Like Cannabis Indica, Cannabis Sativa reduces pain, relaxes muscles and reduces the effects of cramping. Sativa is also known as an anti-inflammatory, reduces anxiety and stress symptoms, and also makes chronic headaches and migraines easier to endure. Cannabis, and especially Sativa, because of their high abundance in this strain, effectively reduce eye pressure and are suitable for glaucoma treatment – one of the most common causes of blindness in the world. Generally, pure sativa has a protectiveness effect. Often it is also described as slime and cough.
SATIVA SEEDS
As with Indica, Sativa is mostly crossed. Pure sativa seeds are offered here.
Ruderalis
Ruderalis variety
The cannabis Ruderalis is initially located on the other side of the Urals. He is comparatively short-lived but enormously robust. Ruderalis is mainly used for crossing with one of the different two varieties. The resulting hybrids are also more robust and immune to rookie mistakes when growing.
Its enormous advantage: It requires no complicated set of the light cycle and thus the lighting system to make the Ruderalis flower. As an intersection, the Ruderalis often transmits this property, so that the new breed also begins to flower in constant light. Many experienced users report that the effect of Ruderalis crosses decreases faster than the purer Indica or Sativa varieties.
Which variety on which occasion – for cultivation, for consumption
Indica vs. Sativa
Indica (left) is dried heavier than Sativa (right)
That’s because most of them “take what they can get” and then have to be surprised by their specific characteristics.
However, if you want to grow outdoors and produce a cannabis variety that is inspiring beyond the perfect after-work relaxation, you will find an exciting field of experimentation in the Sativa.
